So the day started off innocently enough: web content meeting for the Hispanic Family Initiative, planning for their Town Hall (bringing together the city’s community-based orgs to join together for a grant proposal into Obama’s recent $500 million allocation of funds to CBOs).
From there I ran to the video production classroom of my friend Bryan L at historically low-income and Hispanic, Jefferson Davis High School to talk about goals and success. The kids were super responsive, had great questions and made me think. From there neighboring classroom for web design invited me over and I gave the preso there. I walked away inspired and with a million new ideas for how to make my presentation even more relevant for folks.
I was blown away. The enthusiasm and motivation with which these guys teach their classes is nothing less than admirable (more on that in another post.) I met a musician. Greatness.
Then I was off to meet with a potential new client who plays the “ideal parents role” in family homes where the parents are less than ideal. The impact her org is having in Brazoria county is amazing (invited her to the Town Hall, natch).
Then all of this hit me in the face. The opportunity to help these people is empowering. I identified with each of their causes and I came back to the office more motivated than I’ve ever been before. Spectacular what people are doing for one another. I can’t keep up, and all of this bring such meaning to what I do as an individual.
It reminded me, frankly, of why I came into this business and why I even live. Impact. Make differences. To not sit idly. Proud to be a part of this community. Proud to have a reason to care.
